Rachel Barnes to join Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball staff

On Friday, coach Michael Madrid announced that Rachel Barnes will join his staff as Texas A&M-Kingsville’s newest assistant women’s basketball coach.

“We are thrilled to bring Rachel Barnes on staff,” said coach Madrid. “She is an experienced coach having recruited, developed and graduated young women in arguably the toughest Junior College conference in the country while at Pensacola State College. Rachel is relationship driven and will make an immediate impact on our student-athletes and campus community as a whole. Excited about her future and thankful she has chosen to be a Javelina.”

Barnes previously served as an assistant coach at Pensacola State College, where she’s been since 2014. At Pensacola State College, she spent time as an interim head coach overseeing the selection of seven first-team All-Panhandle players and one All-American. Additionally, she recently received distinction as the 2021-22 World Exposure Report’s NJCAA Assistant Coach of the Year.

Before her time with the Lady Pirates, Barnes had stints at Seward County Community College and Windsor High School. She is a 2012 graduate of Providence College who represented the Friars women’s basketball team following a pair of seasons as an NJCAA All-American at Seward County.
