St. Bonaventure Women’s Basketball Staff Update

St. Bonaventure women’s basketball head coach Jesse Fleming has announced the addition of James Ewing and Skylar Fitzgerald-Nuffer to the coaching staff for the 2022-23 season.

Ewing will serve as the Bonnies Director of Basketball Operations while Fitzgerald-Nuffer will be the team’s video coordinator.

Prior to St. Bonaventure, Ewing served as an assistant coach at Daemen College during the 2021-22 season. Ewing also worked with post player development and was the recruiting coordinator, helping lead the development of conference Player of the Year and First Team All-American Katie Titus.

“James is an up-and-comer in the profession,” Fleming said. “He is incredibly positive that is going to bring a ton of energy to our staff and locker room. James has an extensive playing and coaching career and will be able to bring a different prospective of basketball knowledge to the staff.”

As a student-athlete, Ewing spent two seasons at Toledo (2011-13) and finished his collegiate playing career at Mercyhurst (2013-15). While with the Lakers, he appeared in 55 games and made 30 starts, helping the team to an NCAA Division II Tournament berth in 2015. Ewing graduated from Mercyhurst in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in business and hospitality.

Ewing would go on to play professionally for the Buffalo 716ers of the Premier Basketball League (PBL) following graduation, averaging 10.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in 2015. Ewing then spent three seasons playing in Belize in the National Elite Basketball League (NEBL). He spent the 2016 season with the Dangriga Warriors, pouring in 15.8 points per game and was named to the EuroBasket All-NEBL Third Team.

He went on to log the 2017 and 2018 campaigns with the Orange Walk Running Rebels, averaging over 16 points per game both seasons. Ewing was also a three-time NEBL All-Star selection.

Fitzgerald-Nuffer joins the Bonnies from right down the road in Portville, N.Y. She most recently spent time with the Buffalo Sabres as a business development intern.

“We are happy to have Skylar,” Fleming said. “She comes highly recommended and comes from a managerial background just like I did. She is incredibly organized, on top of things and just has a good personality. Her organization and background will really help our staff.”

Prior to working with the Sabres, Fitzgerald-Nuffer served as the head manager of the Niagara women’s basketball team from 2018-21, working directly with the Purple Eagles’ Director of Basketball Operations.

Also while at Niagara, she was a member of the NU Sport Management Association and also volunteered at the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships.

Fitzgerald-Nuffer earned her bachelor’s degree in sport management in December 2021.
