Charlotte women’s basketball Head Coach Cara Consuegra has announced the promotion of Cait Wetmore-Banx to Associate Head Coach and Nicole Woods to Associate Coach for the reigning Conference USA champions.
Wetmore-Banx enters her third season with the 49ers in 2022-23 after helping guide the Niners to both the C-USA regular season and tournament titles along with a berth back into the NCAA Tournament. Wetmore-Banx assisted KeKe McKinney in becoming C-USA’s Defensive Player of the Year and all-defensive team while becoming the league leader in blocked shots. Angel Middleton also put in countless hours with Wetmore-Banx leading to a career-high day at Florida Atlantic on February 26th.
“I am thrilled to elevate Cait to the role of Associate Head Coach,” started Consuegra. “During her time as a Niner, Cait has positively impacted our program on and off the court. Her ability to connect and build culture has been invaluable to our success. She excels in on-court coaching, player development and has been instrumental to both the external and internal management of our program. She is ready to take this next step in preparation to being a Head Coach which will be very soon.”
Starting her tenth season with the Niners, Woods has been the recruiting coordinator helping construct the program’s high-octane offense along with the stingy defense. Woods mentored Octavia Jett-Wilson who became C-USA’s Player of the Year and Tournament MVP after being tabbed a Co-Player of the Year in the preseason. Woods will once again work with returning fifth-year point guard Jada McMillian who averaged a team-high 35 minutes a game last season.
“I’m excited to announce Nicole as our new Associate Coach,” continued Consuegra. “Over the last 10 years, Nicole has worked tirelessly to transform Charlotte women’s basketball into a championship program. Her knowledge of the game, recruiting prowess and ability to build relationships has made a tremendous impact on our program. These attributes, combined with her passion for Charlotte, will continue to elevate our teams and student-athletes. I’m thrilled to continue our work here together.”
