Concord University head women’s basketball coach Tesla Southcott has announced the addition of Michael Bean Jr. to her coaching staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.
Bean serves as an assistant professor of education at CU as well as the campus’ Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Bean has a vast and deep background in the game of basketball having played at Division I Hampton University in Virginia from 2003-2007. He appeared in 47 games for the Pirates.
“My coaching philosophy is to lead with truth and put in the work,” Bean said. “Working hard is the best way to help players reach personal and team goals.”
A native of Columbus, Ohio and a graduate of Bishop Hartley High School, Bean has involved himself with the officiating side of the game since finishing up at Hampton. He has refereed junior college, Division II and III games for men’s and women’s college basketball.
“Coach Bean’s energy and passion will be a huge asset,” Southcott said. “His knowledge and experience at the Division I level will be great for our individual skill and player development specifically in the post.”
The addition of Coach Bean is the third assistant for the Concord women’s basketball program, joining Madison Heller and Lily Griffith.
