Dobrovosky Returns to Le Moyne as Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach

Le Moyne College head women’s basketball coach Mary Grimes announced on Friday morning the hiring of Joanna Dobrovosky ’18 as assistant coach.

“I am excited to welcome Joanna back to the Heights,” said Grimes, who is in her first year leading the Dolphins. “She is a high-character person with a lot of energy and passion for Le Moyne. Joanna is very relatable and will be instrumental in helping our young women navigate the total student-athlete experience on the court and in the classroom.”

“I am absolutely thrilled to be doing what I love for a College that means so much to me,” said Dobrovosky. “I want to thank Athletic Director Bob Beretta and Coach Grimes for the opportunity of a lifetime!”

Dobrovosky started her coaching career in her first year after graduating from Le Moyne by serving as a volunteer assistant coach at fellow Jesuit institution, Spring Hill College during the 2018-19 season. The Badgers, a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, went 12-16 overall and 7-10 in conference action before earning their first SIAC Championship Tournament game victory in their first year of eligibility after transitioning from the NAIA.

She later moved to Atlanta and served as a learning specialist at a YMCA. She also performed basketball skills clinics at the YMCA in the Winter months.

A native of Skaneateles, she started the final 81 games of her 95-game career as a Dolphin. She tallied 6.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.64 blocks in 21.2 minutes per game. Her 156 career blocks are the fifth-most in the program’s history. She registered 10.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game as a junior en route to being named Northeast-10 Conference Honorable Mention. She posted double-doubles in eight games. On December 10, 2016, she registered 20 rebounds, the second-most in a game in the program’s history.

She then recorded 8.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.75 blocks as a senior. On January 6, 2018, she dished out a career-high 10 assists, tied for the ninth-most in a game in the program’s history. She tallied a pair of double-doubles on the season and scored in double figures 11 times, including a career-high 22 against New Haven on February 20.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the College in 2018.
