Tasha Harris, Syracuse University’s all-time leader in games played (133) and games started (132), has joined Dwight Shaw‘s women’s basketball staff as assistant coach at Bronx Community College.
Harris comes to Bronx from Nazareth High School in Brooklyn, where she served as an assistant varsity girls coach. The former Orange standout also served in assistant coaching roles at Fowler High School and Nottingham High, both in Syracuse.
She is second in Syracuse history in assists (536) as a four-year starting point guard and four-year captain. A Bronx native, she finished her senior year seventh in the BIG EAST in assists. During her career with Syracuse she made four postseason appearances, three in the WNIT and one NCAA Tournament, her freshman year.
Harris was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team, leading Syracuse with 4.1 assists per game, while averaging 4.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per contest as a freshman.
Prior to her career leading the Orange, Harris was a first-team all-Manhattan selection by the Daily News in 2007. She amassed more than 1,000 points during her four-year career at St. Michael Academy, including 20 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and three steals per game as a senior.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Syracuse in child and family studies and her master’s in business administration from the University of Phoenix. Professionally, Harris serves as a special education teacher.
