Brian Fleming, a former standout student-athlete at Roger Williams University who holds coaching experience at the professional, collegiate, and high school levels, will join the Brown University women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach, head coach Sarah Behn announced on Tuesday.
Fleming has coached at the collegiate level with Connecticut College (2014-17), mentored high school student-athletes as a girls basketball head coach at two high schools in the state of Connecticut – Waterford High School (2017-19) and Glastonbury High School (2004-13) – and acted as a statistical analyst and scout team member for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun.
During his time at Connecticut College, Fleming helped the Camels make three consecutive appearances in the NESCAC tournament. He aided the program in posting its best record (17-7) in the NESCAC era during the 2015-16 season and in reaching a national ranking of No. 22 during that same year. With the Camels, Fleming held a variety of responsibilities, including practice planning, scouting, recruiting, social media, and camps.
From 2017-19, Fleming served as the head girls basketball coach at Waterford High School, leading the team to an ECC Division II Tournament title. From 2004-13, he acted as the head girls basketball coach at Glastonbury High School, guiding the team to a 138-68 record (.670 winning percentage) during his tenure. He led Glastonbury to three straight Central Connecticut Conference tournament titles from 2011-13.
Since 2013, Fleming has worked as a statistical analyst and scout team member for the Connecticut Sun, providing statistical reports to the team’s coaching staff and executing opponents’ offense as a practice player. He participated in the 2016 WNBA All-Star Clinic with that year’s WNBA All-Stars.
Fleming played collegiately at Roger Williams University from 1993-97, finishing his career with 1,126 career points and as the school record holder for career 3-pointers, career 3-point percentage, 3-pointers in a game, and free throw percentage in a season.
A 1997 graduate of Roger Williams, Fleming went on to earn a Master’s in Education from the University of New Haven in 2000. He resides in Noank, Conn., with his wife Jennifer and daughter Cecily.
