Announced by head coach Diane Richardson, E.C. Hill has been hired as an assistant coach for the Towson University women’s basketball team.
Hill joins the Tiger family after spending the last three seasons as the head coach at Montverde Academy. Prior to her stint in Florida she was an assistant coach at the University of Arizona. While with the Wildcats she coached one of the best scorers in program history and the 18th player at Arizona to reach 1,000 points in Candice Warthen.
“E.C. Hill brings a great deal of experience at the Division I level,” Richardson said. “Her knowledge of the game as a former professional player and as a coach will fit our program perfectly.”
She also was a position coach for Davellyn Whyte who was drafted 16th overall in the WNBA draft in 2013. Hill’s first season at Arizona began with an 11-1 start, the best in program history since the 1999-00 season.
A graduate of Northern Illinois, Hill spent six years at NIU before starting at Arizona. In her first two seasons she coached Huskie standout Stephanie Raymond who was an All-MAC honoree in 2006-07 and became the first NIU player to be drafted into the WNBA, selected 20th overall.
She also coached Marke Freeman who would be named the MAC Sixth Player of the Year and Kylie York who finished her career as the leading three-point shooter in Northern Illinois history. Before joining the NIU staff Hill spent one season as the head coach at Robert Morris College for the 2004-05 season.
Hill has her legend marked down in the NIU Athletics Hall of Fame, and in the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. She helped lead the Huskies to three straight NCAA Tournament berths under head coach Jane Albright.
Her accomplishments at NIU led to several accolades. Hill was named a first-team U.S. Basketball Writers’ Association All-American, a Kodak District Four All-American, a preseason Street and Smith’s and Basketball Times All-American, Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Year, first-team All-Mid-Con and All-Mid-Con Tournament on a 25-6 NCAA Tourney squad that won the 1993-94 Mid-Con regular-season title with an 18-0 record.
Hill played for two teams in the American Basketball League, with the New England Blizzard from 1996-98 and the Chicago Condors from 1998-99. In the WNBA she played with the Charlotte Sting in 2000, the Phoenix Mercury and Los Angeles Sparks in 2001 and the Orlando Miracle in 2002. Hill also played in several cities in Europe.
A 1995 grad from Northern Illinois, Hill has a degree in communications and is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She also has a daughter, Asia Janay Murray.
