Texas A&M International University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Nate Vogel announced the hiring of Timm Dixon as the new Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach on Monday. Dixon brings 17 years of experience in men’s and women’s basketball while compiling a winning overall record (.503) as a collegiate women’s basketball coach.
“Our program is very fortunate to add Timm Dixon to our family,” said Coach Vogel. “He has great experience having been a head coach and assistant coach at many different levels from JUCO (Junior College) to NCAA Division I. He has great recruiting connections all over the world that will make our women’s basketball program better. Most importantly, Timm is a great person who I’m confident will love, serve and care for our players.”
Coach Dixon joins TAMIU after he was both the men’s and women’s basketball Head Coach at University of the Southwest through the 2018-19 season. For the first time in school history, he had two players named to the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Academic All-American list.
“I am beyond excited for the opportunity to join the Texas A&M International University women’s basketball program,” said Dixon. “I have always admired the culture of competitive toughness and academic excellence that Coach Vogel has. His passion, tremendous work ethic in recruiting and continual commitment to the development of student-athletes – both as players and people – is something that I can’t wait to be a part of.”
Prior to coaching at University of the Southwest, Dixon was the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Missouri Valley College where he produced a trio of NAIA Athletic All-Americans, 15 Heart of America All-Conference players 15 NAIA Daktronics Academic All-Americans, and three NAIA Daktronics Academic All-America teams. Coach Dixon also led the Vikings to the program’s first ever win over an NCAA Division II team (Maryville University).
Dixon was also an assistant coach on the NCAA Division I Idaho State University women’s basketball staff from 2013-14 where he served as the recruiting coordinator and guard position coach. During the 2012-13 season, Dixon was the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Lamar Community College. That season he led the Runnin’ Lopes to a program record, 18 wins and was recognized as the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Region IX Coach of the Year runner-up.
Dixon has held the role as Assistant Coach at multiple NCAA Division I schools including Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, Idaho State and NJCAA schools Pima Community College, Glendale (Ariz.) Community College and South Mountain Community College.
Off the court, Coach Dixon stresses the importance of academic success and community service. Dixon is an active global recruiter and has received commitments from players all over the world including Latvia, Russia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Spain.
Dixon graduated with a master’s degree in Education from Grand Canyon University. He and his wife Traci have three sons, Jake, Tanner and Trevor.
