Jeannette Mosher announced the hiring of McKamie Place as the next Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.
Prior to joining UT Tyler, Place served as the assistant coach at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York. The 2017-18 Knights finished the season at the Skyline Conference Championship after a 21-7 season.
Mosher commented on the hiring, “I am excited to have McKamie join me on staff as we transition to Division II. She is a proven recruiter who will bring enthusiasm and energy to our program. I look forward to working with her.”
Prior to Mount Saint Mary, Place helped the women’s basketball team at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (NCAA Division III) in Belton, Texas, to a 15-11 record in 2015-2016. A year later, she assisted the women’s basketball team at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas to a 21-7 overall record in the Heartland Conference (NCAA Division II).
In college, Place played Division III basketball at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). Averaging 5.7 points per game, she shot 42.3% from the floor and 40.5% from three point range her senior year. In 2015, she led Southwestern and the SCAC in 3-point percentage shooting, while guiding her team to a conference championship.
Place commented, “UT-Tyler is impressive – the beautiful campus, the driven students, and the successful athletic department. My passion for coaching centers on working with student-athletes to help them become their best on and off the court. I am excited to work with Coach Mosher and our team to elevate the women’s basketball program to the Division II level.”
Place received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology from Southwestern in 2015. In 2016, she graduated from Sam Houston State University, Summa Cum Laude, obtaining a Master of Science in Kinesiology Sport and Human Performance.
Originally from Gatesville, Texas, Place currently resides in Tyler.
