Ryan Rebsom Named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Aurora University

Aurora University today announced that Ryan Rebsom will become the 18th Head Coach of the Spartan women’s basketball program. Rebsom assumes the duties from Brittany Carper who stepped away from coaching earlier this month.

“I’m happy to announce today that Ryan Rebsom has accepted the position of head women’s basketball coach at Aurora University,” said AU Director of Athletics Jim Hamad. “Ryan has been a vital piece of our men’s basketball success the last two seasons. Through our discussions it was apparent that Ryan was ready and eager to lead our women’s program and I’m thrilled that we were able to keep him in the Spartan family.”

The 2017-2018 Spartan women’s team went 14-12 overall and 12-8 in the NACC which was good for a sixth place conference finish. Rebsom inherits a program that returns the entire roster including guard Julie Galauner who was recognized as the 2017-2018 NACC Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-Conference and guard Alyssa Brems who was a NACC Honorable Mention All-Conference recipient. Five Spartans averaged 9.0 points per game or more led by Galauner (16.1 points), Brems (11.6 points and 4.2 rebounds), Adriana Ramirez (9.3 points and 8.8 rebounds), Bri Hall (9.0 points and 5.6 rebounds) and Meija Rabi (9.0 points and 5.9 rebounds).

“I am appreciative and excited to become the new women’s coach at Aurora University. I have developed such a deep respect and admiration of Aurora University in my time here that I am honored to move into my new position,” said Rebsom. “Aurora University is an amazing institution from top to bottom with amazing leadership and vision I value to be a part of. I am thankful for the opportunity and support from Dr. Sherrick, Dr. deLacey and Jim Hamad on this journey. The high level of student athlete in the program is a direct credit to Coach Carper and Coach Nelson. I truly value and respect what it means to be a Spartan and a part of the AU family. Our program will reflect the high values of this institution and be held to the highest standard every day to become difference makers in the world and on the court.”

Rebsom spent the last two seasons as the assistant coach of the AU men’s basketball program with the Spartans having a 37-18 overall record with a 31-9 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference mark with one NACC Championship and an appearance in the 2018 NCAA Division III Tournament. He came to AU prior to the 2016-2017 season after a year away from collegiate coaching. Rebsom spent 10 seasons at Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opponent Rockford University as the Regents men’s Head Coach, where he was the 2008-2009 NACC Coach of the Year.

A Montana native and graduate of the University of Montana-Western, Rebsom earned his bachelor’s degree in English. He played four seasons as a member of the UMW men’s basketball team, where he was a two-time all-conference selection and earned all-region accolades as a junior. Rebsom and his wife Rachel have two daughters, Rhylen and Renley.

The AU women open the 2018-2019 season on Friday, November 16, when they travel to the Anderson University Tournament in Anderson, Indiana.

A national search for an assistant coach of the men’s basketball program at Aurora University is underway.
