Carrillo promoted to Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Dominican (IL)

The Dominican University Department of Athletics announced that Tethnie Carrillo will be named the new head women’s basketball coach of the Stars’ program.

Carrillo served as the Associate Head Coach this past season.

“I would like to thank Dr. John Planek and Dominican University for this great opportunity,” said Carrillo. “I am eager to make a positive contribution and provide leadership and guidance to our student athletes in our women’s basketball program on and off the court. I am excited about the future growth and development for this program!”

“Tethnie Carrillo brings over 20 years of coaching experience at the Division III level in the Chicago-area to this position. Her strong ties and relationships to high school and club coaches will be a great asset for recruiting to our program. She is an excellent teacher and has enhanced the skill development of her players which will help her move the Stars program forward,” said Dr. John Planek Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

Carrillo brings previous head coaching experience to the Stars, serving as the Head Coach at Elmhurst University for 16 seasons. Carrillo, left the Elmhurst as the all-time wins’ leader in program history and qualified for the CCIW Tournament 9 times in her 16 seasons as the Bluejays’ head coach. Her former players garnered 24 all-conference honors, six all-region accolades, and three All-America awards. Before taking over head coaching duties at Elmhurst, Carrillo served as an assistant coach for four seasons from 2002-2006 after spending one season at Lake Superior State University during the 2006-2007 season.
