William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond announced today that Erik Johnson has resigned from his position as head coach of the Boston College women’s basketball program. Johnson just completed his sixth season at BC and posted an overall record of 68-115, including a mark of 19-77 in ACC play.
“Erik has put his heart and soul into leading our women’s basketball program and we appreciate his years of service,” Jarmond said. “We wish him and his family the best in all of their future endeavors.”
During his tenure, Johnson advanced to the second round of the ACC Tournament twice and upset No. 4/6 Duke on January 22, 2015. While at the helm, Johnson’s best ACC finish was in 2014-15 as the Eagles went 5-11 in conference play. His best overall record of 15-16 occurred in 2015-16.
“Boston College has been a special place to be associated with and I am thankful for the opportunity to coach at The Heights,” said Johnson. “The future of this team is so bright with all five of the team’s leading scorers returning next year. Thank you to our players, coaches and staff for all of their hard work and sacrifice over the years to help grow our program.”
Yvonne Hawkins will serve as interim head coach until a new coach is named. A national search will begin immediately for Johnson’s replacement.
