Russell Brown and Michael Dooley have been named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coaches for the 2017-18 season announced by head coach Sheila Cook.
“I am very excited about the addition of not one, but two new coaches to our Women’s Basketball staff,” said Cook. “Both Mike and Russ have already been hard at work daily getting ready to help our team grow and improve.”
Prior to joining the Alvernia staff, Brown was an assistant coach for the Kutztown University Men’s Basketball team. During Brown’s three seasons with Kutztown, the Golden Bears were 69-22 and went to the DII NCAA Tournament two of the three years, including a Sweet 16 appearance during the 2016-17 season. Brown also coached six first team All-PSAC players, eight second team All-PSAC players, and a PSAC Scholar Athlete.
Brown is a 2017 graduate of Kutztown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.
“Russ brings a ton of energy and excitement to our team,” Cook said. “He worked hard to develop some great guards on the men’s side at Kutztown, so I’m excited to have him working with our guards this year.”
Prior to joining Alvernia, Dooley was an assistant coach/defensive coordinator for the Cecil College Women’s Basketball team for the 2016-17 season. During Dooley’s time with Cecil, the Seahawks went 19-8. Under Dooley, the Seahawks held opponents to just a 0.29 shooting percentage. Dooley is also a skills development coach for Point Blank Period, LLC, which is the skill development team for the PIAA State Champion Reading High School Boys Basketball team.
Dooley is a 2016 graduate of Temple University’s Fox School of Business. During his time at Temple, Dooley served as a volunteer coach for the Temple University Women’s Basketball team.
“Mike comes to us with great experience coaching the defensive end of the game,” said Cook. “His passion for team defense fits right in with mine, so I am thrilled to have him on board.”
