Myron Brown Named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Thomas University

Myron Brown has been named the new head women’s basketball coach of the Thomas Night Hawks, director of athletics Mike Lee announced.

Brown, who most recently served as interim head women’s basketball coach for The Sun Conference rival Saint Thomas (Fla.), begins his duties Sept. 11 as Thomas’ second head coach in program history. He replaces Coretta Brown, who joined West Alabama’s women’s basketball coaching staff as its top assistant.

“Myron is the leader we trust to continue the challenging but exciting work to elevate the Thomas women’s basketball program to unprecedented heights,” Lee said. “He embodies integrity, strategic thinking and a demonstrated commitment to success. He understands the important role that athletics plays in the life of a vibrant university, and that outstanding scholarly pursuits and top-notch sports are integral parts of the Thomas experience. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Thomas community.”

Brown becomes head coach of a Night Hawk program that returns four starters and eight letterwinners from last season’s squad that ranked 14th in NAIA Division II in offensive rebounds per game, 16th in steals per game and 26th in 3-point field goal percentage defense.

“I would like to thank president Dr. James Andrew Sheppard, Coach Lee and associate athletic director Ricky Zambrano for allowing me to lead the Night Hawks into the future,” Brown said. “My family and I are blessed, humbled, yet excited to begin this new journey with Thomas University. I believe we will accomplish great success in the classroom and on the court.”

Brown assumed the interim responsibilities at Saint Thomas in February 2015. His impact was immediate, helping lead the Bobcats to The Sun Conference Tournament championship game. One Bobcat was named to the All-Sun Conference first team, while two were voted to the second team. Saint Thomas, which finished 15-15 overall, including 9-7 in league play, ranked in the top 25 nationally in steals per game and turnover margin.

Brown spent two seasons (2014-16) as the head women’s basketball coach of the Virgin Islands after serving the 2013-14 campaign as associate head men’s basketball coach with the Bobcats, helping lead Saint Thomas to a 26-7 overall record, including a 16-2 mark in The Sun Conference and 4-1 record against NCAA Division II opponents. The Bobcats won the league title and advanced to the NAIA Division II National Championship second round. Three Bobcats were named to the All-Sun Conference first team, and two were voted NAIA All-Americans.

Brown jumpstarted the men’s basketball program at DeVry (Fla.) and served as head coach for one season (2012-13). He also served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Rochester (Mich.) for two seasons (2009-11) and interim head and assistant men’s basketball coach at Madonna (Mich.) for one season (2008-09).

Brown is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Athletes in Action (AIA).

As a player, Brown was a starter as a senior and four-year letter winner at Rochester.

A native of Detroit, Mich., Brown attended Evangel Christian Academy. Myron and his wife, Antoinette, have two daughters – Bry, 16, Mya, 9 – and one son, Myron Jr., 7.
