Sewanee head women’s basketball coach Tracey Braden has announced the addition of Alyssa Visbeen as an assistant coach.
A four-year letterwinner with Belmont University in Nashville, Visbeen played in 119 career games with the Bruins, finishing with 740 career points. In her senior year, she averaged 8.7 points per game.
She finished with a career 41 percent mark from the field and 33 percent from beyond the arc during her time in a Bruins uniform. She was named by the Atlantic Sun Conference Second Team All-Conference and the All-Academic Team. When Belmont moved to the Ohio Valley Conference, she was named to the All-Conference Team.
During her junior year, she was the recipient of the Hancock-Nipper Sportsmanship Award by the Nashville City Civitan Club, which is a local organization that volunteers with community outreach groups such as the Salvation Army, Big Brothers & Big Sisters and the Special Olympics. The A.D. Hancock-Walter Nipper Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to a player from each of the Davidson County college teams that best displays outstanding sportsmanship qualities. The award is named after two long-time members of the Nashville City Civitan Club: A.D. Hancock, a highly-respected educator, and Walter Nipper, owner of Nashville Sporting Goods, who contributed much to the Nashville community.
“Alyssa is a great addition to our staff! Her energy is evident every day, and her enthusiasm for the game of basketball is contagious”, quoted Braden. “She is a ‘worker’ and already making great connections on the recruiting trail. I am excited to work with her and I know that the players are going to benefit from her being a part of Sewanee Women’s Basketball.”
Prior to her arrival at Sewanee, Visbeen served as head coach of Team Brandan Wright’s Class of 2020 team, head coach of the All-Around Game/Lady Zoom Class of 2020 team and assistant of Team Brandan Wright’s Class of 2017-19 teams since August 2014.
The Franklin, Tenn. native attended high school at Brentwood Academy, where she was played basketball under head coach Rhonda Blades Brown, where, in her senior year, was named the Williamson County Player of the Year, an All-Region selection by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) and was named an On the Ball Magazine Top Player to Watch. With her success on the court in basketball, as well as in volleyball and track and field in the discus and shot put events, she was named Brentwood Academy’s Female Athlete of the Year.
During the 2016-17 academic year, she returned to Brentwood to serve as an assistant coach, assisting with practices and scouting games.
Visbeen interned with Pure Sweat Basketball, the Nashville Predators in their Youth Marketing and Fan Development and with Belmont’s Audio and Video internship.
“It is a true honor to have been chosen to join the Sewanee family, and I am blessed to get the chance to learn from such an experienced and reputable coach”, said Visbeen. “I believe in Coach Braden’s vision, and I look forward to helping her take the program to the next level.”
Visbeen graduated from Belmont in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations, with a Sports Media minor.
