Wilbur selected as Women’s Basketball Head Coach at D3 Millsaps

A familiar face in Jeff Wilbur has been welcomed back and named the new Millsaps College head women’s basketball coach, the Millsaps College Department of Athletics announced on Tuesday.

Wilbur brings nine years of coaching experience with him, including two seasons as the Millsaps men’s basketball assistant coach.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to return to Millsaps and lead the women’s basketball program,” Wilbur said. “Millsaps College is a special place that my wife, Tabitha and I fell in love with during our earlier two years here. We are excited to reimmerse ourselves in the Millsaps campus and surrounding community. I am honored to be tasked with building on the great tradition that Coach Leblanc and his players have built with their previous success.”

Wilbur was the women’s basketball assistant at Arizona Western College last season, helping the team achieve a 25-4 record, earn a regular season championship and qualify for the NJCAA national tournament for the third time in program history.

For two seasons from 2021-23, Wilbur was an assistant for the Majors on the men’s side. He helped scout, game plan, recruit, organize fundraising opportunities and aid with other tasks at Millsaps as well as at Arizona Western College.

On top of his coaching duties, Wilbur was also a Career Pathways staff facilitator during his second season in Jackson, Miss. He implemented weekly career readiness lessons which included resume writing, mock interview practice and personal finance to 20 first-year students.

Prior to the collegiate ranks, Wilbur was the head boy’s basketball coach at Apple Valley High School (2019-21) and Tolleson Union High School (2015-19)

He doubled Apple Valley’s win total and increased money fundraised by over 500 percent from the previous season. In 2018-19, Wilbur also helmed Tolleson to its first postseason appearance since 2011. He was able to improve the team’s conference and overall winning percentages.

Additionally, Wilbur was a special education teacher at Tolleson, Apple Valley and again at Prescott High School (2023-24).

Wilbur obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Wittenburg University in Political Science. He also earned a Masters of Education, which included a Masters of Special Education from Arizona State University.

He was an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American for football in 2009, Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year in 2006 and member of two conference championship teams at Wittenburg.
