New Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball head coach Ethan Whaley has hired three members to his first coaching staff.
Amber Osborn and Adam Myers have been hired as assistant coaches while Shelbi Chandler is the Graduate Assistant.
Osborn comes to Indiana Wesleyan with WNBA and Big East experience. She was drafted 33rd overall in the 2004 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx. Osborn played five seasons in the WNBA with the Lynx, Washington Mystic, and the LA Sparks.
She was a four-year starter at Boston College where she is fourth on the all-time scoring list, fifth in assists, and sixth in steals. Osborn helped lead BC to three NCAA Tournaments — including two Sweet 16 appearances — and the 2004 Big East Championship which in the only conference title in program history.
Osborn has spent time as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Toledo (2004-06) and at Rhode Island (2009-10). She played overseas in Ribera, Sicily in 2007 and was the Assistant AD and head women’s basketball coach at Clarks Summit University (Pa.) (2010-15).
“Coach Osborn is a perfect fit at Indiana Wesleyan,” said Whaley. “Her zeal and excitement to help others grow in all areas of life is evident. The combination of a high level playing and coaching experience mixed with her passion for investing into our players is going to be instrumental in the growth of our program.”
Myers begins his first season as an assistant coach at Indiana Wesleyan in 2017-18. He has a passion for developing players’ fundamental skills and watching them grow as basketball players and as godly individuals.
Before coaching at IWU, Myers graduated from Huntington (Ind.) with a degree in Organizational Management. He spent seven years working for Youth for Christ, eight years as the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Grant County, and currently serves as the Director of Campus Recreation at Indiana Wesleyan. He brings 15 years of coaching experience and eight years as a licensed basketball official with him to his new role with IWU Women’s Basketball.
Outside of coaching, Myers loves to spend time with his wife, Ronda, and children, Elijah, Cyrus, and Destiny and investing in his community.
“I am elated for the addition of Coach Myers,” said Whaley. “Adam has a track record of making everyone around him better. No matter the situation or task, he consistently goes above and beyond what is asked. His selfless, overachieving mentality is exactly the type of leadership we want in our program.”
Chandler is a 2016 graduate from Cincinnati and spent the last season as an intern with the Stanford women’s basketball team that reached the Final Four. She is a four-year letter winner at UC and is a two-time American Athletic Conference and two-time Big East All-Academic selection.
Chandler is one of 75 women’s college basketball players to be selected to participate in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 14th annual ‘So You Want to be a Coach’ program. She was also named the 2016 Most Influential African American Woman on the University of Cincinnati Campus.
“I am excited for Shelbi to join our staff,” commented Whaley. “Her energy and excitement is contagious for everyone around. Her passion to invest into our players and see them grow both on and off the court makes her a perfect fit for our program.”
