Broadhurst to Lead Keuka College Women’s Basketball

Gary Broadhurst will become the 13th Women’s Basketball coach in Keuka College history. His transition from assistant coach to head coach was announced Friday afternoon.

Broadhurst takes over for Sarah Gaffney who leaves Keuka College for Bridgewater College in Virginia after three seasons with the Wolves.

“I’m looking forward to continuing what Sarah and I started when I came on board in August 2014,” said Broadhurst. “I believe this program is going in the right direction with the quality student-athletes already apart of this program and those that are joining us next season. Wolves Basketball will continue to push their up-tempo offense and pressure defense.”

Gary Broadhurst has been an assistant coach for the Women’s Basketball program for the past three seasons. He has also served as head coach for the Cross Country and Golf teams. Broadhurst was a standout member of the basketball teams at Mohawk Valley Community College and Springfield College.

“I would like to thank Director of Athletics Dave Sweet for this tremendous opportunity. I’d also like to thank Coach Gaffney for her support in this transition as well as wish her the best of luck as she begins the next chapter of her career at Bridgewater College.”

His coaching career began with a pair of assistant positions at Guilford Tech Community College in North Carolina and at Georgia Highlands Community College. Broadhurst then entered the Division III ranks at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y. where he served as an assistant and helped guide the Men’s Basketball team to the Skyline Conference championship game.

Broadhurst will be taking over for Sarah Gaffney, who has been the leading the Wolves for the past three seasons. Over her tenure, she posted a 31-40 career record, leading the Wolves to the North Eastern Athletic Conference tournament this year with a 14-10 record.

“I would like to thank Sarah for her hard work and dedication to the Women’s Basketball program at Keuka College,” said Dave Sweet. “She has the program on the rise and we wish her the best of the luck at Bridgewater. We are also excited to have Gary Broadhurst promoted and take over the program. He is a talented coach and I am confident he will continue the rise of the program.”

Broadhurst will resume the duties of the head coach immediately as he looks to close out the 2017 recruiting class and begin preparations for the 2017-18 basketball season.
