MU Announces Carolyn Kieger Contract Extension

Marquette University head women’s basketball coach Carolyn Kieger’s contract has been extended through the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign, Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Scholl announced Tuesday afternoon.

“We are thrilled with the direction the program is heading under Carolyn’s leadership,” Scholl said. “The team has made tremendous strides in just three years and we look forward to that continuing into future seasons as well.

“As a former Marquette student-athlete, and now our head coach, Carolyn is a tremendous representative of the University and Marquette athletics, as are the student-athletes she has brought to Milwaukee to wear Blue & Gold,” Scholl added.

In her third season as head coach, Kieger guided Marquette to an overall record of 25-8, the program’s first-ever BIG EAST Tournament title and its 10th appearance in the NCAA tournament (No. 5 seed was highest in school history). The roster featured multiple all-conference performers and Allazia Blockton was tabbed an All-America honorable mention honoree.

A 2006 graduate of Marquette, Kieger owns an overall record of 48-46 and has increased the team’s win total from nine in her first year to 25 in 2016-17.

“Words can’t express how proud and thankful I am for Marquette’s belief in me, my staff, and our program,” Kieger said. “We are all very excited about the future and the direction we are headed. I feel blessed to work for a place I call home and with the best staff in the business.

“I can’t thank Dr. Lovell and Bill Scholl enough for their support and dedication towards our program,” Kieger added. “Marquette is very special and I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead this program to new heights.”

The financial details of the contract extension won’t be disclosed by the University.
