Boise State’s Presnell wins 600th career game

Riley Lupfer and Marijke Vanderschaaf combined for 36 points to lead Boise State past the Portland Pilots 74-60 Sunday afternoon to hand head coach Gordy Presnell his 600th career win. Boise State, who is off to its best start in 41 years at 9-1 overall, recorded two more milestones this season as the Broncos earned Presnell is 600th victory, it was also the program’s 300th win inside Taco Bell Arena all-time since the 1982-83 season.

Presnell on winning his 600th game, “I’ve been blessed to be at two great universities (Seattle Pacific and Boise State) that put an emphasis on athletics and believe that athletics are important to the university. That really helps. Coaching is a really nomadic sport when everyone is going all over the place, but I feel really fortunate to have just stayed at two universities.”

In the first 11 years under his direction, the Broncos have recorded seven winning seasons and one at .500. After going 15-15 in his first year (2005-06) the Broncos recorded four consecutive-winning seasons, including a school-record 24 wins in both the 2006-07 (24-9) and 2007-08 (24-8) campaigns. Boise State currently has an active streak of three straight winning seasons with two national postseason appearances. Presnell’s teams have gone 96-84 in conference games and an impressive 117-49 (.705) at home in Boise, including a perfect 14-0 in 2007-08.

Presnell’s teams have advanced to national postseason play four times and have recorded the only postseason victories in program history reaching the second round of both the 2008 Women’s National Invitation Tournament and 2014 Women’s Basketball Invitational.

Next up is the final non-conference game of the season Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Hawai’i in Taco Bell Arena.
