Mackenzie Head named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Air Force

Mackenzie Head has been named women’s basketball assistant coach, according to an announcement today from Head Coach Stacy McIntyre.

Head (formerly Novak), arrives at the Academy as a six-year riser in college women’s basketball, previously serving under Mike Bradbury at New Mexico from 2023-26. While with the Lobos, Head was primarily responsible for player development and oversaw the Lobo’s offensive playmaking and production, leading one of the top scoring offenses in the nation. Additionally, Head was heavily involved in recruiting for UNM and served as the team’s academic liaison. The Lobos averaged 20-plus wins throughout Head’s time in Albuquerque and amassed a 37-19 record against Mountain West opponents. In all three seasons, UNM ranked third or better in the Mountain West in rebounds per game, topping the league in 2024-25.

2020 to 2023 saw Head’s rise in the collegiate space, starting as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball program at alma mater Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Head served the Bethel Royals for one season before two more stops at Mercer (Graduate Assistant, Women’s Basketball) and George Washington University (Director of Player Development) prior to arriving on the scene at UNM. In 2021, Head was selected to participate in the 2021 Top Connect Graduate Assistant Leadership Program hosted by Stanford University.

Originally from Eagan, Minnesota, Head graduated from Bethel as a two-sport athlete, playing both women’s basketball and tennis. Doug, Head’s father, is the current women’s head coach at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville and is a 35-year coach across all three divisions.

“I’m incredibly grateful to join the Air Force Women’s Basketball program,” said Head. It’s a special place that embodies integrity, service, and excellence in all we do. I am honored to be a part of the Academy’s tradition and excited for the opportunity to help develop future female leaders on and off the court. Thank you to Coach Stacy – a great coach, mentor, and leader, for the opportunity. The best is yet to come – Let’s get to work & go Falcons!”
