Missouri Southern Women’s Basketball interim head coach Ronnie Ressel announced the hiring of Jamesia Price as an assistant coach today July 5, 2016.
Jamesia “Mesi” graduated from Saint Louis University with a bachelor’s degree in Communications and a masters of arts in higher education while playing basketball for the Billikens and coach Lisa Stone. Mesi set career records for the Bills in steals (202) and games played (125) while finishing third in school history in assists with 407 and ninth in three point field goals with 101 career treys. She was the first player in SLU history to swipe 200 career steals and dish out 400 career assists.
“I’m extremely excited to have Jamesia Price join the Lion staff. She comes highly recommend from Glen Box, Assistant at the University of Indiana, who I have known for a longtime. Jamesia has all the intangibles you look for in an assistant coach. She has a great work ethic, she’s a great communicator and is driven and motivated to be successful. She has a tremendous passion for the game of basketball, teaching and mentoring young ladies. Coach Price will be a great addition and fit with Coach O’Brien and myself,” said Ressel.
Mesi’s senior season saw her score a season high 15 points and swipe a season-high five steals in the A-10 Championship game against Rhode Island on her way to her second consecutive A-10 All-Defensive team selection. Price was also named the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll both semesters during her senior season while receiving the Saint Louis University’s Exemplary Achievement Award for making significant contributions to the advancement of the Billiken women’s basketball program. Price ranked third in the A-10 during her senior season in steals per game (2.1) and 14th in assists per game (2.9) while her 70 steals on the season set a record for Billiken seniors and it is second on the SLU all-time single season list.
During her junior season Mesi was the first ever Billiken women’s basketball player to be named to the A-10 All-Defensive Team and she was named an All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year by the National Strength Coaches Association. She garnered the same All-American honor during her sophomore season after sitting out the 2012-13 season due to an injury.
“I am looking forward to starting my coaching career here at Missouri Southern State University and excited to be a part of such a wonderful program filled with great people,” said Price.
