Michael Williams has been named the Simmons College Head Women’s Basketball Coach, it was announced today by Director of Athletics, Ali Kantor.
Williams was chosen to direct the college’s women’s basketball program following a comprehensive nation-wide search.
“We are excited to have Michael join our staff as Head Women’s Basketball Coach,” said Kantor. “He brings a great deal of experience in player development, national recruiting of scholar athletes and the experience of winning a national championship at FDU-Florham. All of this, in addition to his boundless energy and innovative ideas, will advance Simmons basketball quickly.”
The Bronx, N.Y. native comes to Boston as one of the most promising young coaches in the nation. Williams’ only season as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Pratt Institute was historic, taking the winless Cannoneers and leading them to their highest win total in school history. Under Williams’ direction, the team boasted the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year as well as a pair of All-Conference honorees.
Prior to his arrival at Pratt, Williams served as an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach and top recruiter for Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham, where he helped the Devils compile a 62-2 record over a two-year span that saw them post a perfect 33-0 record and win the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2013-14. He was also a part of FDU-Florham’s staff that guided the squad to an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight behind a 29-2 mark in 2014-15.
Williams spent 2010-13 as the top assistant and recruitment coordinator at John Jay College. He helped orchestrate a dramatic turnaround for the Bloodhounds, seeing them go from 1-24 to 11-16 in just his first season with the program.
The New Yorker attended Long Island University-Post, where graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education in 2007. He is also the founder of Elite Training, a company that trains athletes ranging from middle school to the professional level.
