Upper Iowa Head Women’s Basketball Coach Carol Russell has been relieved of her duties by the University for the remainder of the 2015-16 season and her contract will not be renewed.

“We wish Coach Russell the best as she moves forward and thank her for her six years of service to the program,” said David Miller, Director of Athletics for the Peacocks.  “We will work diligently to identify the right coach for this program.”

Mike Sybrant, Peacock assistant women’s basketball coach, will assume interim head coaching duties of the program for the team’s play in the postseason.

Upper Iowa closed out the regular season on Saturday and will compete on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Minnesota State University Moorhead for the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Upper Iowa University and the athletics department will have no further comment at this time.
