University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics David Blackburn announced a contract extension for women’s basketball head coach Jim Foster today. The 2015 Southern Conference Coach of the Year is now under contract through the 2020-21 season.
Foster has led the Mocs for the last two years, guiding UTC to an impressive 58-8 overall record and an unblemished 32-0 mark in league play. Chattanooga has won the SoCon regular season and tournament titles each of the last two seasons and was ranked No. 17 in the nation heading into the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
“The accomplishments of our women’s basketball program have certainly exceeded our expectations,” stated Blackburn. “Coach Foster has improved upon the program’s tradition of excellence, and we want him to finish his Hall of Fame career here at UTC.”
Last season, UTC pulled off a major upset of No. 4 Tennessee with a 67-63 win at home on Nov. 26. Three weeks later, the Mocs did it again with a 54-46 home win over No. 7 Stanford. UTC again led the SoCon in attendance, averaging 2,177 fans per game.
“I’m happy to be in a great place, a great city with great people,” Foster said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of this year’s schedule. I can’t wait to get started.”
Today’s extension added two years to Foster’s existing contract. It also included performance bonuses for winning the SoCon regular season or tournament championships and conference coach of the year honors. It also included performance bonuses for assistant coaches for making and advancing in the NCAA Tournament.
