Winthrop head women’s basketball coach Semeka Randall Lay announced additions and changes to her staff.
Randall Lay is heading into her sixth season leading the women’s basketball program and coming off the team’s best conference record since 2014-15 as the Eagles look to ride that momentum into 2025-26.
Dominique Duck has been promoted to assistant coach after spending the 2024-25 season as the team’s director of basketball operations. Duck joined the Eagles in July of 2024 after spending three seasons at Valparaiso an assistant coach.
“Dominique brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the assistant coach role,” said Randall Lay. “I’m confident she will thrive in this position, making a meaningful impact on our team while empowering our athletes to reach their full potential—both on and off the court.”
Steve Joyner has been hired as an assistant coach. Joyner spent the last two years as athletic director for West Charlotte High School, but brings a wealth of experience at the collegiate level with stops at Johnson C. Smith, Winston Salem State, Florida A&M and North Carolina Central. Joyner spent two seasons as head coach of the Winston Salem State women’s basketball program and 10 seasons at the helm of the Johnson C. Smith women’s basketball program.
“Steve has a sharp understanding of the game, and I expect him to make an immediate impact,” stated Randall Lay. “His leadership experience and appreciation for team cohesion will be vital to our success. His passion for the game and commitment to player development will undoubtedly elevate our program.”
Carisma-Ann Lynn has been hired as the director of basketball operations. Lynn joins the Eagles staff after her most recent role as Mist Basketball Club Coordinator. In 2023-24 she spent the year as the a graduate assistant of operations for the Miami Hurricanes where she received a master’s degree in sport administration.
“Carisma-Ann unique background makes her an excellent addition to our staff,” said Randall Lay. “She brings a strong work ethic and is eager to contribute behind the scenes. I’m confident she will provide great balance and support to both our team and our student-athletes.”
Brandon Brown has been hired as the video coordinator after spending the last season as a graduate assistant with the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team. Brown also has experience as an NBA Player Development assistant and a season as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma State.
“Brandon is a tremendous asset to our staff,” said Randall Lay. “His passion for the game, combined with his analytical insight, will be a key advantage for our program. Equally important is his ability to build strong relationships with both staff and players, which will help foster a positive and connected environment.”
