Wilson Joins UC Irvine Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff

Justin Wilson has joined the UC Irvine women’s basketball staff as an assistant, head coach Tamara Inoue announced on Friday.

“I have known Justin for over 10 years now and I am thrilled that he has accepted the position to be a part of our staff,” Inoue said. “He has an exceptional defensive mind and has a proven track record in player skill development at all positions. Not only is the basketball floor important but he is very passionate and committed to working with our student-athletes to see them succeed in their life journey when they graduate from UCI.”

Wilson was previously an assistant at Pacific where he headed up all junior college recruiting and scouting efforts for the Tigers. On the court, he worked primarily on defense and the development of the team’s point guards.

Prior to his stint at Pacific, Wilson spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Chico State. During his tenure, the Wildcats made three-straight appearances in the West Regional Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four in 2006. He was responsible for the coaching and development of the post players, while also serving as the team’s video coordinator.

In addition, Wilson has extensive experience at the prep and youth levels, coaching a variety of age groups for AAU basketball, and spending time as an assistant at Chico High School. He also acted as the Director of Summer Camps for the Pacific women’s basketball program.

“I am sincerely excited to join the UC Irvine community as a member of the women’s basketball coaching staff,” Wilson said. “It is abundantly clear that UCI is committed to the betterment of its student-athletes, both on and off the floor. Coach Inoue possesses a passion for the game, and a contagious desire to achieve great things; I am thrilled to be a member of her team. I welcome the opportunity to add what skills I may to an institution that already impresses academically and athletically.”

Wilson earned his bachelor’s degree in social science (2003) and his teaching credential (2006) from Chico State.
