Coastal Carolina University has announced a change to the leadership of its women’s basketball program, as Jaida Williams will not return as the Chanticleers’ head coach.
“After an evaluation of our women’s basketball program, we have decided to make a change,” said Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and University Recreation Matt Hogue. “We are appreciative for the dedication that Coach Williams has made to our women’s program and thank her for her service to Coastal Carolina University.”
A national search for a new women’s basketball coach will begin immediately.
Williams finished her ninth season at the helm of the women’s basketball program in 2021-22, going 15-11 overall and 4-9 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Chanticleers finished ninth in the Sun Belt regular-season standings and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2022 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament before falling to the top-seeded Troy Trojans 99-77.
In her nine seasons at CCU, Williams had a 129-127 record as the Chanticleers’ head coach, including a 68-90 mark in conference play spanning over both the Big South and Sun Belt Conferences.
In 2018-19, Williams led the Chanticleers to the program’s first-ever postseason appearance as CCU played in the 2019 Women’s Basketball Invitational, while in 2019-20, she led the Chanticleers to a program-record 25 victories with an overall record of 25-4. She was named the 2019-20 Sun Belt Conference’s Coach of the Year after her squad posted a 15-3 record and a second-place finish in the Sun Belt.
