William & Mary Announces Hiring of Chanel Green as Director of Basketball Operations

William & Mary head women’s basketball announced the hiring of Chanel Green as the director of basketball operations on Friday afternoon. Green joins the Tribe staff after spending a season at Oberlin College in Ohio.

“We are excited to welcome to Chanel in to our women’s basketball program,” Swanson said. “She was an excellent leader and player and had a championship experience at Hampton, and we look for her to bring that here. A young leader, we are excited that she has chosen to continue her coaching career here with us.”

Green was an assistant coach last season at Oberlin, and helped the Yeowomen to a 15-11 record and a berth in the NCAC Quarterfinals. With the Yeowomen, she was in charge of the scouting opponents, player development, ran all social media platforms, managed the day-to-day operations, organized travel plans, meals, and team activities, led speed and agility workouts, and organized all on campus recruiting activities.

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity and so grateful to be a part of this amazing staff,” Green said. “I’m extremely glad to be able to learn from Coach Swanson and the rest of the staff. I’m looking forward to a great season and working with a great group of players. ”

With local ties, she has also honed her craft as the head coach of Hampton High School JV program and worked as a volunteer assistant at Hampton University both during the 2017-18 season. She has also worked as a strength and speed coach at Sport and Speed Institute.  While there, Green also ran the company’s social media and marketing efforts, and worked as a strength and speed coach. Immediately after graduation, she worked for DC Parks and Recreation as an assistant basketball camp director.

Originally from Washington, D.C., Green played her college at hoops at both East Carolina and Hampton. Green played in 29 games at East Carolina, before playing her last two seasons at Hampton. She helped the Pirates to the 2016-17 MEAC Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Green graduated from Hampton with a bachelor’s degree in strategic communication; public relations, while getting a minor in health education in May of 2017, before earning her master’s in sports administration of May of 2019.
