The Western Michigan women’s basketball program and head coach Kate Achter have announced the hiring of Adam Tandez as Associate Head Coach.
Prior to joining the Broncos, Tandez spent eight seasons at Northern Illinois, including five as the associate head coach. Tandez was in charge of the team’s recruiting efforts and offensive coordination. The Huskies made the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament in four of the last six seasons. Early in his tenure at NIU, he helped the team to an at-large berth in the WNIT.
“I’ve known Adam for almost 15 years. His hunger to get better and help others has never changed even as his own career has grown,” said Achter. “We are thrilled with Adam’s experience in the Mid-American Conference, and know that his recruiting connections across the Midwest will help us continue to attract top talent to Kalamazoo.”
Tandez also spent three seasons at Truman State in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. He helped the team to a Tournament Championship in 2014 and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. He also had a coaching stop at Ashford, a NAIA school in Clinton, Iowa.
In 2016 he was named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Thirty Under-30 Program, being recognized as an up-and-coming women’s basketball coach under 30-years old. Tandez has also been involved in camps and clinics all over the country and has spoken at three WBCA Final Four Conventions. He is also a member of the WBCA Coach-to-Coach Mentorship Program.
Tandez graduated from Marquette University in 2011 and earned a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management from Ashford in 2012.
