Valley added to Virginia Tech staff

Virginia Tech head women’s basketball coach Dennis Wolff announces the addition of Morgan Valley as an assistant coach for the 2014-15 season.

“I have known Morgan as a high school player, college player and college coach,” Wolff said. “She has always impressed me at every stage of her career. We are very fortunate to have been able to hire a coach with Morgan’s experiences.”

Valley, a 2005 graduate of UConn, was a member of three NCAA National Championship teams and won a pair of BIG EAST titles with the Huskies. During her career, Valley appeared in 108 games for UConn and helped the team to a record of 139-8. Valley was tabbed a Parade and WBCA All-American in 2000 and earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Star Team in 2001. Valley was recently inducted in to the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.

The Vermont native, comes to Tech after serving as an assistant at UMass since 2010 where, in addition to her coaching duties, she served as the recruiting coordinator for three seasons. During her tenure with the Minutewomen, Valley coached Jasmine Watson in to the UMass record books, entering in the 1,000-point club as well as ranking among the top-20 in 14 statistical categories.

Prior to UMass, Valley spent two years (2008-10) at Towson as the recruiting coordinator and was an assistant at New Hampshire from 2007-08.

Valley spent time at Holy Cross from 2005-07. The Crusaders made back-to-back appearances in the Patriot League title game and claimed the championship in 2007 en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance. During her time at Holy Cross, Valley coached the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, Patriot League Tournament MVP, as well as four all-conference honorees.

After completing all of her eligibility at UConn, Valley got her coaching start during the 2004-05 season, before graduating, as a student assistant for Hall of Fame coach Geno Auriemma when the Huskies reached the Sweet 16.

Valley also served as the Director of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Clinics in 2004 and was the co-director of the Valley and Valley Girls Basketball Camp in Burlington, Vt. In addition, she has served as a commissioner and counselor at the Auriemma Girls Basketball Camps.

Valley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development and Family Studies from UConn in 2005.
