UW-Parkside Names Jen Conely as Head Coach of Women’s Basketball

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside has named Jen Conely as the new head women’s basketball coach, Director of Athletics Andrew Gavin announced.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jen to Parkside Athletics as the new leader of the women’s basketball program.” Gavin said. “Her high character, work ethic, basketball experience, and commitment to a positive student-athlete experience were evident throughout the search process. Our current and future student-athletes will benefit from Jen’s leadership as we embark on this new era.”

Most recently, Conely was an assistant coach at Walsh University, a Division II program in Ohio. In her only year with the Cavaliers in 2017-18, she helped the team to a 21-9 overall record and a 17-5 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Before Walsh, Conely spent a season at Ursuline College where she saw the team finish 23-8 and make an NCAA appearance.

Conely is familiar with UW-Parkside, having spent eight years at the University of Indianapolis as an assistant coach. With the Greyhounds, Conely helped the program go 155-88 and make six NCAA appearances. Primarily working with the guards and forwards, Conely saw 14 All-Conference performers in her time at Indy, including a pair of All-Americans.

“I am excited and honored to be the head coach of the Parkside women’s basketball program!” Conely said. “I would like to thank Andrew Gavin, the search committee, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside for this opportunity to lead a great group of student-athletes. I am thrilled to be a part of the Ranger family and look forward to continuing their tradition of excellence on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

Conely played two seasons at Florida Gulf Coast right before the program turned Division I. In her final season with the Eagles, she helped the team to a 34-0 record before falling in the NCAA Division II championship game. In her junior season, FGCU went 29-2 and fell in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Conely has an extensive teaching background as well, as she taught history/science at the high school level before becoming an adjunct professor at Indianapolis for over five years. At Indy, she taught teaching/coaching classes along with fitness/wellness classes.

The Warren, Minn., native earned her Associates Degree in liberal arts from Lake Region State College in 2005 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in secondary education & social science from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2007. After her time in Florida, she earned her Master’s Degree in history from the University of Indianapolis in 2009.
