UNC Asheville’s athletics department will not renew the contract of head women’s basketball coach Honey Brown, Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone announced Tuesday (Mar. 19).
“We are extremely grateful for Coach Brown and her staff’s dedicated service and commitment to the Asheville women’s basketball program,” Cone said. “During her time with the program, Brown has led the program with integrity and has provided a positive collegiate experience for her student-athletes. However, the program is not performing at the level of competitive success that we expect, so we have decided to take the program in a new direction.”
Brown has been Asheville’s head coach since the spring of 2020. Under her tutelage, the program has received six postseason player honors from the Big South Conference.
A national search for Asheville’s next women’s basketball coach will begin immediately.
