Tucker named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at New Mexico State

The New Mexico State Women’s Basketball program announced the hiring of Kayla Tucker as a new assistant coach.

Tucker, an Oklahoma City native, is no stranger to success at the collegiate level, bringing Division I and Division II coaching experience to NMSU along with an extensive resume as a college athlete.

Before joining the Aggies, Tucker spent three seasons as the Assistant Coach for the Southern Nazarene Women’s Basketball program, a Division II Great American Conference contender. There, Tucker was a part of three consecutive Regular Season Championships (2023, 2024 and 2025), GAC Tournament Champion (2023), and three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances (2023, 2024 and 2025).

Tucker spent the 2021-2022 season at Ouachita Baptist University (NCAA DII) as an Assistant Coach and the 2020- 2021 season at Texas Tech as the Graduate Assistant for the Women’s Basketball program.

During her time on the Division II level, Tucker coached multiple All Conference selections, including a two-time Conference Defensive Player of the year, Conference Player of the year, two Central Region First Team Selections, and a  Division II All American selection.

Prior to taking on the coaching role, Tucker was a decorated athlete through high school and college in the state of Oklahoma. She was a two-time All-State selection her senior year at Southmoore High School (Moore, Ok), later taking her talents to Alabama State (NCAA DI) in 2013. Throughout her three seasons with the Hornets, she saw one regular season conference title and two conference tournament titles along with two NCAA tournament appearances and a pre-season WNIT bid. It was at Alabama State where she committed her studies to a Bachelors of Arts in Communications, completed in 2016.

Tucker earned her Master’s in Education from Texas Tech University in December 2022.
