Tara Flynn Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Wagner

Wagner College head women’s basketball coach Heather Jacobs has announced has announced the hiring of Tara Flynn as an assistant coach for the Seahawks.

Flynn, who spent the 2016-17 season as an assistant at Stevens Institute of Technology, is a former standout four-year player under Jacobs at Adelphi.

In her one season at Stevens, Flynn helped guide the Ducks to the Empire 8 regular season championship with a 14-2 league mark and to an overall record of 16-10.

In her playing career at Adelphi, the Bayonne, NJ native tallied 493 points over 113 games played and helped lead the Panthers to a combined 84-37 record (69.4 %) and four Northeast 10 (NE-10) Conference appearances. Her playing career at Adelphi was highlighted in her junior season of 2014-15 when the 5-6 guard helped steer the Panthers to the NE-10 title and a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

“We are excited to add Tara to the Wagner women’s basketball family,” said Jacobs. “As a player Tara was a great leader. She truly understands the value of the intangibles, both in recruiting and overall program leadership. Tara was a two-year captain at Adelphi, making her a natural fit. Her immediate understanding of how we want to operate and our philosophies are invaluable. She has a bright future in this profession and we are thrilled she is here with us.”

During her senior in 2015-16, Flynn averaged 6.5 points per game, and set an Adelphi school-record with seven three-pointers made in a contest against American International on February 28. Flynn was a member of the Northeast-10 Conference Academic Honor Roll in all eight semesters of her collegiate career en route to earning a B.S. in sport management in 2016.

Prior to her time at Adelphi, she starred at Bayonne High School. Selected as Honorable Mention All-State during her junior and senior years, the guard led the Bees to three straight conference championships. A member of the National Honor Society, Flynn graduated in the top five percent of her class.

For the past four summers, Flynn served as a director of the United Basketball Camp based out of North Hunterdon, N.J. This summer, she added coaching responsibilities, serving as both a Head and Assistant Coach with the United Basketball AAU team.
