Texas Woman’s University Head Basketball Coach Beth Jillson announced the hiring of Jake Stevens as Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.

Texas Woman’s University provides an excellent environment for student-athletes to thrive both academically and athletically. I look forward to working alongside Coach Jillson to continue this focus on excellence in academics while helping to build an elite basketball program. I can’t wait to get to work in elevating the championship tradition of Pioneer Basketball,” said Stevens.
Stevens comes to Denton following three seasons at Tarleton State in Stephenville where he served as an assistant coach during the 2016-17 season after working two years as a graduate assistant for the TexAnns. With Stevens on the bench, the teams combined for an overall record of 50-35 and a 31-21 mark in Lone Star Conference play. Last season, the TexAnns were the LSC Tournament Champions and earned a trip to the national tournament for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
Jillson stated, “We are extremely excited to add Jake to our basketball family. He brings experience within our league and most importantly is committed to helping our players be their very best, on and off the court. Jake’s commitment to excellence, ability to connect with others, and passion for the game will impact our team, university and the Denton community!”
At Tarleton State, Stevens assisted Head Coach Misty Wilson with all aspects of the basketball program including recruiting, scheduling, game contracts, talent evaluation, player development, scouting, film breakdown, travel, academic progress, and practice and game preparation while also serving as the Summer Camp Coordinator.
Prior to TSU, Stevens was a teacher and coach at Westwood High School in Palestine where he was the head junior varsity and assistant varsity baseball coach as well as the head junior high football and basketball coach. The Panthers qualified for the postseason in basketball in Stevens’ first season on the staff, advancing to the bi-district game.
During 2012-13, Stevens began his teaching and coaching career at Cherokee High School as the assistant football coach and varsity assistant boys basketball coach. In his first season at Cherokee, Stevens helped the Indians reach the postseason in football and basketball. The football team won a bi-district championship in Class A Division II while his basketball team was a bi-district qualifier in Division I.
Stevens earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Fitness Management from Tarleton State in 2011 and his master’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Interdisciplinary Studies from TSU in 2016.
Stevens and his wife, Rachel, reside in Denton.
