St. Bonaventure Extends Crowley

St. Bonaventure University today announced two-year contract extensions for men’s basketball coach Mark Schmidt and women’s basketball coach Jim Crowley. Both coaches are now under contract through the 2020-21 season.

“Mark and Jim are two of the best coaches in the Atlantic 10 Conference,” said Director of Athletics Tim Kenney. “Both of our programs are positioned for long-term, consistent success, and that is a direct tribute to Mark and Jim. These extensions demonstrate the University’s commitment to them and to our basketball programs, and I could not be happier about that.”

Crowley recently completed his 15th season as St. Bonaventure’s head coach. His record is 234-225, although over the last seven seasons the Bonnies averaged 21 wins per year.

Crowley led St. Bonaventure to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2012, earning ESPN National Coach of the Year and Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors. He was again named the A-10 Coach of the Year in 2013-14 after the Bonnies finished second in the conference and won 24 games overall. St. Bonaventure earned WNIT berths in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014.

The Bonnies have been equally as successful in the classroom during Crowley’s tenure. They made the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Academic Honor Roll again this season – the fourth time in eight years the program earned that rank.

St. Bonaventure went 15-15 last season and junior forward Katie Healy earned second team all-conference honors. Healy will be the cornerstone of a veteran team next season.
