Spalding University Women’s Basketball adds Charles Jones to coaching staff

The Spalding University women’s basketball team has added former Louisville standout and NBA player Charles Jones to the coaching staff for the upcoming season.

“We are very fortunate to have Coach Jones on staff. He has a vast knowledge of the game and will be vital to the development of our post players” said head coach Kylee Gorby. “He has a great demeanor for coaching young women and will be a tremendous asset to our program.”

Jones is very familiar with downtown Louisville having played at the University of Louisville under Coach Denny Crum from 1980 to 1984. Jones appeared in 129 games for the Cards scoring over 1,000 career points and pulling down over 800 rebounds. In addition to his individual success, Jones contributed in leading his team to two Final Four appearances.

Jones was selected in the second round of the 1984 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns. He appeared in 78 games as a rookie while averaging nearly 8.5 point and over 5 rebounds per game. Jones played four seasons in the NBA competing for the Phoenix Suns, Portland Trailblazers and Washington Bullets. He played an additional two seasons overseas in Italy before retiring and moving back to Louisville.
