Berry College Athletics Director, Todd Brooks, has announced the hiring of Ashley Southern to serve as the women’s basketball team’s assistant coach effective immediately.
Southern joins Berry College and the women’s basketball coaching staff following a basketball career at both the collegiate and professional levels. Southern arrives at Berry after playing in the Damen-Basketball Bundesliga League (DBBL) for the past year, the premier women’s professional basketball program out of Germany.
Southern is a graduate of Lipscomb University, where she was a three-year starter for the women’s basketball program, earning Atlantic Sun All-Conference, Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Year and Academic All-Conference Accolades. Prior to her time at Lipscomb, Southern also competed as a member of the 2011-2012 University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team.
A long-time AAU and 15U basketball coach, Southern joins Berry after receiving her Master of Integration Technology in Education from Lipscomb University in the May of 2016.
The Berry College women’s basketball team will kick off their season on Wednesday, Nov. 15, as they host Brevard College in the Cage Arena at 6:00 p.m.
