South Alabama Extends Contract Of Women’s Basketball Coach Terry Fowler

University of South Alabama Director of Athletics Dr. Joel Erdmann announced on Friday that the contract of head women’s basketball coach Terry Fowler has been extended through the end of the 2022-23 season.

“Coach Fowler has built the program in a logical and solid way.  He has positioned the program for sustained success and to compete for Sun Belt championships while sincerely guiding student-athletes towards graduation and developing them as successful young adults,” Erdmann said.  “We are proud to have him as not only the leader of our women’s basketball program but as a leader of our department.”

Last season, Fowler led the Jaguars to a school-record 25 victories and the program’s first-ever WNIT win after defeating Lamar 73-71 on the road on March 22.  South also advanced to the championship game of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the first time since 1989 following four wins in five days after going 11-0 in non-conference action including a five-point victory at Alabama to open the December schedule.

The Jags also went 21-13 in 2017-18 after advancing to the semifinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational.

“I’m humbled yet excited to receive a contract extension to continue to lead the women’s basketball program at the University of South Alabama,” said Fowler.  “I want to thank President Dr. Tony Waldrop and Dr. Joel Erdmann for their unwavering belief and support in me, our staff and student-athletes.  I can’t thank our student-athletes and coaching staff enough for their commitment to our vision.  I love the energy and excitement that the past two seasons has brought to our program and look forward to building on this momentum for years to come.”

Fowler has a career mark of 292-281 in 20 seasons at the collegiate level, and has led the Jaguars to 85 victories over the last six years.
