Proulx steps down as Women’s Basketball Coach at D3 Elms College

After nine seasons as the Elms College Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Michelle Proulx is stepping away from the court.

From her start in 2014 till last season, Proulx has coached over 200 collegiate competitions with a record of 106-106. In her first six seasons Coach Proulx and her team made four consecutive NECC (New England Collegiate Conference) appearances, including qualifying for the NECC tournament finals in her first season (2014-15), third season (2017-2018), and sixth season (2019-2020).

The Elms College Athletic Department entered the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in the fall of 2021 academic year. As their first season began in the GNAC, Coach Proulx, along with all the winter sports, had her season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the 2021-2022 season, Proulx coached her team to a 14-9 season going 9-8 in the GNAC and hosted Elms’ first playoff game in the GNAC with a 66-55 win over Colby-Sawyer.  In addition, senior forward, Angelica Peguero-Flores made history and finished her career scoring her 1,000th point.

With eight appearances in conference tournaments over her nine seasons of coaching, Michelle Proulx also has had many student-athletes recognized for their athletic achievements including Player of the Week nominations, Conference All-Team honors, and players inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society.

In her final season as the Women’s Head Basketball Coach, Proulx recorded her 100th career win to kick off the 2022-23 season with a 75-69 win over the Salem State Vikings. She will be leaving the hardwood after making such huge achievements as a coach and mentor for all her student-athletes.

Prior to her head coaching career, Michelle Proulx began her career at Elms College in the Admissions Office.  From 2008-2013, she served as an Elms Admissions Counselor, the Director of the Student Ambassador Program, and was also a part time assistant basketball coach.   She was then promoted to Director of Admissions in the summer of 2013.

Proulx will now be handing over her duties as Associate Athletic Director and Coaching to find her way back to the Admissions offices here at Elms. Michelle Proulx will still stay connected to athletics as she will now be the Associate Director of Admissions communicating within our Athletic Department as our liaison.

I wish Michelle all the best as she transitions to her new job as Associate Director of Admissions right here at Elms College. ” – Athletic Director, Michael Theulen

Theulen spoke very highly about Proulx and the impact she has had on our blazer community,

She has been, and will continue to be, an invaluable colleague.  Her impact as a teacher, coach, athletic director, mentor, and role model has been tremendous.  She will be deeply missed by our entire Blazer Athletic Family.  On the bright side, however, she will remain very connected with us in her new role in Admissions.  Once a Blazer, ALWAYS a Blazer!” – Theulen

The Elms College athletic department and all the Blazers athletes are saddened to no longer have such an impactful coach, role model, and colleague within the offices of Maguire. But we are all thankful to know that Michelle will continue to help our Athletics grow and stay connected to our Blazer family.
