Pinkerton Selected as Women’s Basketball Coach at Oswego State

The Oswego State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the hiring of Sean Pinkerton as its head coach of the women’s basketball program. Pinkerton’s tenure with the Lakers is set to begin on August 21.

Over the past five seasons, Pinkerton has been the head coach of St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minn. The Ogdensburg, N.Y. native took over a one-win team in 2012-13 and rebuilt the program into a winning- and postseason-bound squad. St. Catherine posted back-to-back winning seasons in the two most recent campaigns, the first time that had happened in the College’s past 37 years. Last year, the Wildcats went 15-11, signifying the most wins in program history, and clinched its highest conference finish in school history as well.

While at St. Catherine, Pinkerton recruited and guided 11 student-athletes to All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) honors, one of which went on to earn D3hoops.com All-West Region accolades. He also oversaw a MIAC Sixth Player of the Year winner and players that own the College’s career marks for points, rebounds, steals, field-goal percentage and 3-point field-goal percentage. Two of his athletes achieved the 1,000 career points milestone, both doing so before the end of their junior seasons.

Prior to St. Catherine, Pinkerton was at the helm of Morrisville State College’s women’s basketball program. Each year the Mustangs bettered their overall and conference records under Pinkerton, setting then-records for highest conference finish and most wins since the school began competition as an NCAA-member institution.

Pinkerton’s coaching career began in high school as the head coach of the girls varsity team at St. Lawrence Central before spending one year as a college assistant at both Heidelberg University and SUNY Canton.

During his time in Minnesota, Pinkerton was also heavily involved in the AAU-circuit as a head coach for the Minnesota Fury. With the Fury, he developed players that ranged from late elementary school age to seniors in high school, winning several division titles at some of the highest-level AAU tournaments in the country.

Pinkerton earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a minor in economics from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. He will reside locally with his wife, Carolyn, and their two children.
