SUNY Old Westbury’s Director of Athletics and Recreation, Lenore Walsh is proud to announce the hiring of Joe Pellicane as the next head coach of the women’s basketball program.
Pellicane brings over four decades of collegiate coaching experience across various levels and a distinguished record of success.
Walsh has expressed confidence in Pellicane’s ability to lead and build the program. Walsh said, “I am thrilled to welcome Coach Pellicane to the Panthers’ community. We are excited to have him as his track record and experience speaks for itself. His leadership and dedication towards his student-athletes will be pivotal in rebuilding our women’s basketball program.”
Pellicane’s career includes various stints across the NCAA basketball landscape. Pellicane has coached programs at the Division I and Division II levels. His career includes stints as the head coach at Molloy University and Dowling College, as well as other coaching experience at St. John’s University, Hofstra University, among others. He holds a 573–428 coaching record.
Pellicane was named the NCAA DII National Coach of the Year in 2013. Over his career he is a seven-time ECC Coach of the Year recipient. His teams have racked up 29 postseason appearances, six NCAA postseason appearances, four NJCAA postseason appearances, seven top 25 national rankings, 56 All Conference Players and seven All-Americans. Pellicane took the first ever women’s team in New York State to a national championship.

At SUNY Old Westbury, Pellicane will look towards his years of experience of building programs to revitalize the women’s basketball program and build a competitive team within the Skyline Conference.
The New York native earned his bachelor’s degree in education at Dowling College in 1970, he would later be inducted into the Dowling College Athletic Hall of Fame. He also earned a master’s degree in counseling education from LIU Post.
Pellicane currently resides in Deer Park, N.Y. with his wife, Linda. He has three children, all of whom are educators, Andera, Lauren and Keith.
