Paschal named head coach at Framingham State

Framingham State University Athletic Director Tom Kelley is pleased to announce the hiring of Walter Paschal as the University’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach and Intramural Coordinator.

Paschal, who was an assistant coach with the Rams from 1997-99, returns to Framingham State University after spending the past 14 season as the head coach at Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Fitchburg State University. Paschal will assume his new duties beginning on June 16th.

"We are very pleased to welcome Walter back into the Ram family," said Kelley. "He brings a tremendous amount of basketball knowledge and experience within the MASCAC having won a title with Fitchburg State and we look forward to him taking our program to the next level."

During his tenure with the Falcons, Paschal became the program’s all-time winningest coach with an overall record of 200-164. He led the program to a MASCAC regular season championship, a MASCAC tournament title, the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance and an invitation to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Paschal’s 2006-07 team established several program records including wins (26) and longest winning streak (23) en route to capturing the MASCAC regular season and tournament title and a first round victory in the NCAA Tournament. In 2007-08 he led the Falcons to a 20-9 mark and the EAC Tournament finals.

"I am very excited to be a part of the Framingham State University community and I look forward to helping the student-athletes get the best college experience possible," said Paschal.

A graduate of Bridgewater State University, Paschal has spent the last 20 years at the Learning Prep School in West Newton where he has taught adaptive physical education and coordinated their after school and summer programs.

The Framingham State University women’s basketball team is coming off a successful season after going 14-12 overall and hosting their first MASCAC Tournament game since 2003.
