ORU Announces Addition of Assistant Coach Chris Wallace

Oral Roberts head women’s basketball coach Misti Cussen has announced the addition of Chris Wallace as an assistant coach who begins official duties with the Golden Eagles on Thursday.

“We are excited to have Chris as a part of our ORU family,” said head coach Misti Cussen. “Chris and Sarah have been raising their own family here in Tulsa for several years and we believe he will be a great addition to our staff. Chris has lots of local ties to the Tulsa area having grown up here and then playing here collegiately.”

Wallace has been the boys’ varsity head coach at N.O.A.H (Northeastern Oklahoma Association of Homeschool) since 2011. Under Wallace the Jaguars won their first ever regional championship and finished third at the National Homeschool Tournament – the highest ever finish for the program.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity Coach Misti Cussen has given me to be a part of her staff,” said Wallace. “My family and I are honored and blessed to join the ORU family. I am very excited about the future of this program and look forward to the great years ahead.”

Prior to his time as a head coach, Wallace spent three seasons as the assistant coach at East Central High School in Tulsa from 2008 to 2011. He was also the assistant coach at Tulsa Central for two seasons after graduating from the University of Tulsa.

For the Golden Hurricane, Wallace was a four-year letterwinner and team captain who helped guide Tulsa reach the NCAA tournament as a freshman. Tulsa claimed the WAC Championship during his sophomore season and he was also named to the WAC All-Defensive Team as a senior.

Wallace graduated from Broken Arrow High School and earned back-to-back Class 6A state semifinal appearances as a junior and senior. He was a Tulsa World first team all-state selection after averaging 12.2 points as a senior.

He fills one of the vacancies left by Bojan Jankovic and Royce Samuels. Jankovic left to become the assistant coach at the University of Wyoming as Samuels was tabbed associate head coach at Texas Southern University.
