Nelson Steps Down As Coach Of Raiders WBB

After three seasons at the helm of the MSOE women’s basketball team, head coach Katie Nelson has stepped down from her post. The announcement was passed down by MSOE athletic director Brian Miller. Nelson leaves the Red & White with a near .500 record, where she also served as senior woman administrator during her tenure.

“We want to thank Coach Nelson for her time and commitment to both the women’s basketball program and SAAC,” said Miller. “She was a valuable member to our team as senior women’s administrator and came from a great coaching heritage that was evident on and off the court. We wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

Nelson began her career with the Raiders in 2016, taking over for longtime head coach Jessica Ott. She led the program to a .500 record in two of her three seasons, beginning with a 13-12 campaign in 2016-17. While the Red & White faltered during the 2017-18 school year, they rebounded the next go-around with Nelson guiding the team back to the NACC postseason tournament for the first time since 2015-16.

“It is with mixed emotions that I change careers after spending almost two decades playing and coaching basketball at the collegiate level,” said Nelson. “While being excited about my future, I look back on my three years at MSOE with nothing but warm feelings. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to coach and mentor some amazing student-athletes. I would like to thank the administration, especially Brian Miller, for their guidance and support.”

The MSOE athletic department will be announcing the selection of the new women’s basketball head coach shortly.
