Montana Tech Names Assistant

Montana Tech women’s basketball coach DeAnn Craft announced the addition of her assistant coach today. Kesha Watson will be on the bench next to Craft this upcoming season.

Watson moves to Butte from Oklahoma City, where she played high school and collegiately in her hometown. This year is Watson’s first year as a fulltime coach, but has coached AAU in Oklahoma City the past three years. Watson’s playing resume speaks for itself.

In college, Watson played for NAIA basketball powerhouse Oklahoma City University. No stranger to championships, she helped Oklahoma City to two National Titles (2001 and 2002) and two runner-up finishes (2003 and 2004). In 2002-03, she was named Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year and NAIA Player of the Year averaging 23.6 points per game. In 2003-04, she received the same honors averaging 24.1 points, four rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.6 steals. She was also named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Both years she was a Kodak All-American.

At the end of her career, Watson had school records in points (2,658), assists (675), steals (433), field goals (968), attempts (2,119), three-pointers (238) and free-throws made (484). Watson also holds single-season records for points (962), assists (179), steals (143), three-pointers (106) and three-point attempts (297). Against Doane (Neb.) on Nov. 7, 2003, she set the single-game record for steals picking 12 against the Tigers. Watson was inducted into the Oklahoma City University Hall of Fame this past year.
