The Lasell University athletic department is looking for a new head women’s basketball coach following the announcement that Todd Montana has stepped down after six seasons on the Laser sideline and eight years at the institution.
Montana, who also served as sports information director at Lasell from 2012-14, has resigned to pursue other professional opportunities. He served two years as a volunteer assistant with the women’s basketball program while he was the SID before taking over as head coach in 2014.
“I have been fortunate to coach a large number of talented and more importantly high-character young women in my time at Lasell,” said Montana, “and I will miss both the returning players and our group of alumni greatly. I am proud of the things they were all able to accomplish on the court, but enjoyed watching them grow as people even more.”
“Both in my role as a coach and an administrator at Lasell,” added Montana, “I consider myself lucky to have been able to work some truly talented coaches, athletic trainers, faculty and staff. I hope I was able to have a fraction of the impact on them professionally as they had on me. While I am sad to be leaving some lifelong friends, I am looking forward to my next challenges and I will continue to follow the exploits of future Lasers in the coming years.”
Montana has been a coach and administrator for nearly 20 years, with previous coaching stints at Union College (N.Y.), LeMoyne College and Green Mountain College.
“I would like to thank Todd for all of the work that he has done the past eight years at Lasell,” said Lasell director of athletics Kristy Walter. “His contributions to the department, especially with compliance, our Senior Banquet, the Athletic Hall of Fame, sports information and overall administration have been key roles in the department. I know that I speak for others in the department when I say that he will be missed, and we wish him the best in his next chapter.”
