Mitchell named Assistant Women’s Coach at Charleston Southern

Charleston Southern women’s basketball will welcome back a familiar face for the upcoming season, as former men’s basketball player, Cortez Mitchell, will join Clarisse White‘s staff as an assistant coach.
 
A former member of the Buccaneer men’s basketball team from 2016-18, Mitchell returns to Charleston Southern for his third stint at the University, as he was also Video Coordinator on former Head Coach Barclay Radebaugh’s staff from 2021-23.
 
Mitchell joins the women’s basketball program after spending the 2023-24 season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where he coached on the staff of his former Callaway High School basketball coach, David Sanders.
 
As a player at Charleston Southern, Mitchell played in 59 career games and scored 599 career points in two seasons, averaging 10.2 points per game. Prior to that, he played two seasons at Pearl River Community College, where he was named All-Region 23 twice and was a part of a state championship team for the Wildcats as well.
 
Mitchell is a native of Jackson, Mississippi and owns an associate of arts degree from Pearl River. He graduated from Charleston Southern with a degree in communications.
